What applies to the physical life often parallels in the spiritual.
Who are you when your SOUL is hungry?
Angry? Grumpy? Stubborn? Selfish? Pouty? Out of sorts?
There is only One thing that can truly satisfy.
A deep, loving, personal encounter with Jesus.
This hit home one day while in confession. I found myself recalling a very ugly moment when I had spoken an extremely unkind word to someone who had hurt me. I had lashed out in a moment of raw emotion instead of turning the other cheek or even better, returning love.
I will never forget the priest’s reaction when I confessed this. It was not one of scorn or condemnation, but with deep sorrow in his eyes he looked at me and said, “Oh Melissa, what you need is a big hug from Jesus. How long has it been since you went to Adoration?”
I realized that was it. My love tank was empty.
I was starving for Jesus, in desperate need of a re-fill of love.
Hangry?
August challenge: Go to Adoration (maybe take a field trip and find a cool new place to hang out with Jesus*) and then let the Lord of the Universe satisfy your very hungry soul.
“Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.'” John 6:35.
Dear Lord,
UGH! I get so busy that I forget to eat! I forget to feed my very hungry soul! Only You can fill me with the Life I so long for. Help me to be so full of Your love, that I am able not only to ACT like a Christian, but to RE-ACT like a Christian as well. Lord, I can not do this on my own. I need Your grace to see that anything less than You will just leave me only wanting more!
I ask this in the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
